Death and Rebirth

Sometimes we have to experience death to know the wonder and beauty of life.
Last year a beloved friend of mine passed away quite suddenly and it seemed to come out of nowhere.  My cat Eddy crawled under my bed on Monday, March the 26th and died while I was out running an errand in my neighborhood.   When I found him, I clung to his body and cried out to the heavens in grief and shock.

During the days that passed after his death I realized in his own way he had known he would pass and in the days preceding his exit from this dimension he gently exhibited his love, patience and gratitude to me in small ways that only I would understand after his death.  I honor him and his life as he taught me a lot about love and healing when he was alive.

The day before he died I was out walking in my neighborhood.  It was foggy that day and just outside my house I heard a crow cawing, the sound of the crow’s voice echoed around me strangely as if it came from all directions.  I heard a distant rushing sound.  In retrospect I realize preparations were being made for Eddy at that time.  I have heard this sound before when a different friend died, right at the moment of the soul passing over I heard this same rushing sound.

The night after Eddy died I was arriving home quite late (I think it was around midnight) and I heard a bell tinkling, looking to my right a luminous white cat (Eddy was black) that looked exactly like Eddy.  He sat on his haunches as if he were about to take-off, the moonlight gently bathed him in a soft white light.  He looked at me half in recognition another half already somewhere else, and scampered away.  I never saw that cat again and I believe it was a visitation from Eddy, his way of letting me know he would be around.  Myself, and the remaining cats have had humorous visitations from Eddy reminding us, he is still about.

My sister Sherry died about three years ago and the week before she passed over I looked in on her remotely and saw an angel standing by her bed to take her over to the other side. The day after she died I was moving, all the power went out suddenly in my building on that day and while transporting the last of my belongings I had a vision of death being like a trip down the birth canal.  Not something to be feared but a birth into another world or existence. I believe Sherry was communicating that to me.

People have asked me what I think heaven is or if I have any insights into the other side.  What I have received through my dreams, visitations from my sister and guidance is first of all it is really important to make a good transition, I mean to go in peace, not hanging on to staying here.  To live out lessons learned here in this lifetime, on planet Earth.  What I have received is there are many, many dimensions or worlds and depending what our next experience is to be is where our soul heads to next.

I believe when death happens to our loved ones, it can be very profound and transformative to us as well, because we are exposed to the energy from these other dimensions, during and shortly after the physical death of the departed.  This energy if channeled properly can make us take stock of our own lives and we have the opportunity to make the necessary changes to live our lives with greater awareness.  Thus the saying sometimes we have to experience death to live life more deeply.

Positive Thinking

There has been so much written on this topic one thinks to themselves what could I possibly add (that might be original) to this already enormous mountain of thought. It is however something I have put a lot of research into because with all that has been written and discussed you would think the earth would be like heaven, with everyone radiating positivity by the truckloads. Alas it is not so, we have a lot to learn as a species.

First of all to think positively is good for your health. When we try to be positive we actually radiate these good vibes and connect with the universal mind energy, which is pure love and intelligence. There was a healer from the U.K. who died in the late 1990's by the name of Betty Shine who could see the human aura very clearly. As she advanced in her healing practice she began to notice a energy halo or balloon like shape over people's crown chakra (this is the chakra right on the very top of our heads). When people were ill this halo would depress inwards towards the person, as they got healthier Betty noticed the halo would expand outwards.

Some quotes from Betty's book Mind Magic:

"How does it feel when you are positive? There is one word for it: powerful. Why do you feel powerful? Because the thought process has reversed the direction of your mind energy which is now expanding, linking up to the cosmic forces. The more positive you are the more energy you are absorbing.

I am not writing a chapter on negativity because we all have so much of it. We don't need any encouragement to go under when things are bad. Its an entirely natural reaction and in fact we need those negative times in order to maintain a balance.

The trouble is negativity is difficult to reverse. But once we feel our verve and electricity returning, we want more and more of it, so the mind energy continues to expand and revive. As I said at the beginning of this book if you want to keep healthy, try to think positively at all time. At best a ratio of 70% positive and 30% ( most people are doing the reverse).

It is balancing the negative and positive so you are on an even keel that is difficult, but once you begin to study the process and make it work, it is fascinating, absorbing and beautiful. There will be a feeling of fulfillment never before experienced. So how can this be accomplished? The first step is to is to limit yourself to 5 minutes of negative thought at a time - then switch off.

This is extremely difficult but something you have to do, for unless you do it your thought processes will control you, not the other way around. With a disciplined mind you are in control. Practicing gratitude is a great way to overcome negative thought, look how well you are doing already."

My own experiences confirm what Betty Shine is talking about here, when I am in channel I feel pure positive light energy flooding my system, as the reading is drawing to a close and I am finished I feel this intense energy leave me. However I know how healing this energy is so I try to cultivate positivity whenever I can.
We need help to accomplish our goals, when we are more positive we vibrate at a higher frequency. In doing so we join up with other positive vibes out there so that our goals and ideas can be more easily accomplished as we are link up with other like-minded souls. A mutually supportive resonance is created, as if we were riding the crest of a wave. Suddenly things start happening, supporting our endeavors. Serendipity, chance encounters that feel fated. Similar events happen for negative thoughts, just in the opposite direction. Where do you want your energy to go?

A friend and I were discussing this very phenomena one day over coffee. She is a scientist and was telling me about a physicist she met who told her of an interesting occurrence which happened in a lab when he was an undergraduate at Cambridge. He was assisting a physicist with an experiment where a photographic plate is being bombarded with electrons. He said to her, you know our energy has an effect on the outcome of the experiment anyway, which has an impact on the results. She said yes that's true do you want to see something really interesting, she told him to go and stand down next to the photographic plate and think of something really negative that makes you mad, watch what happens. The young student did as he was told and watched the plate, apparently the experiment hardly happened, not very many effects were noted. Then she told him to go back down there and think of something that makes you really happy, the young student thought positively and watched as she bombarded the plate. Not only did the experiment happen but there were rainbow colours that were noted.

In conclusion its better for you in ways you might never have imagined to try as best you can to think positively, not only for yourself but in doing so makes the planet a better place to live for the rest of us!

Spirituality and Nature

I grew up out west and lived on Vancouver Island from age three to eight, I remember trees so wide that it took my three sister's and I linking hands to encircle some of them. It is quite impressive to see these trees for yourself when you are out there. I returned again about eight years ago and visited an area my father told me was so dense that he needed a flash (on a bright sunny day) to take a picture when we were little girls. This area is known as Cathedral Grove and is a small protected area. A lot of the trees have fallen down as a result of wind and weather, this is due to the surrounding area being logged and the forest is younger, so there is no supporting ecosystem or buffer for that area of trees.

From what I understand the logging companies are doing the same thing at Clayoquot Sound, one of the last remaining vestiges of untouched, pristine forest left on the planet! For more information go to this link; http://www.focs.ca/logging/index.asp. I am no environmental expert but I am a expert in the area of spiritual energies on the planet, so I will speak from that place.

We are not our physical bodies but are spiritual beings having a physical experience. For this reason vibrations are very important to each and every living being on the planet, because we are all affected by vibrations for better or for worse. We are linked planetary wide to energy vibrations that could be emitted from such faraway places as say Clayoquot Sound. Even yes, us city dwellers. These are all concepts being explored and proven by the new physicists including seminal thinkers such as Steven Hawkins. These laws have been understood and utilized by Lakota medicine societies for hundreds of years in their ceremonies.
As we are vibrating beings, we need the healthy vibrations of these wild areas for our own health and psychological well being. These old trees have a very deep wisdom in which we all could learn from.

As previously stated, about eight years ago I visited Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island, I later made some paintings (in my studio in Toronto) based on this visit. About this time I was meditating and out of nowhere I was visited by one of those old majestic trees I saw that day on Vancouver Island. I felt myself inside the tree, I was part of the energy that was going up and down the trunk and it was part of me, most of the vision was too profound to put into words here. It was very powerful, I was energized after the meditation. The tree was communicating with me telepathically over 4,500 km. I came out of the meditation and felt compelled to check my journal, I looked back a year ago to the day I was meditating, in my journals I visited Cathedral Grove exactly one year ago to the day!

These events are not coincidences but part of a purposeful intelligence that is self regulating and can maintain itself in perfect balance. Something we modern humans with our technology and conveniences have lost touch with. This is deeper than an issue of admiration of the beauty of nature, and going on a canoe trip through the wilderness.

Synchronicity

Whether we realize it or not there is a intelligence out there which we resonate with and are connected to on planet Earth. This energy force is not easily understood by the rational mind; some call it a mystery, I have experienced it as creativity in action. What I am speaking of here is the laws of manifestation, it is a very complex subject and I will cover only a segment of those laws here and how synchronicity plays a part.

We cannot only have creative thoughts in our mind and sit back and wait for things to happen. We have to put it out there and engage with the creative power of the universe. That is why the rational mind can be a hindrance rather that help us, it often gets in the way of a deeper understanding of the self and of the world around us.

It has been my experience that sometimes there is a waiting period for events to become aligned for the best possible outcome. Its important that we learn the lessons we have agreed to learn here on planet Earth in this dimension at this time. This process is known by people who work with energy as "thought, word and deed" and really this is the simplest way to remember it.

This process, even though it governs our existence and we interact with it every day of our lives is very mysterious (because of the lessons we are bound to here) which are still unknown to us. This is difficult for the rational mind to absorb who needs everything understood and explained immediately and given to it with a nice bow on top. Just as our previous lives are like shadowy edges of our reality so are the lessons our souls have committed to learning while here in this dimension.

That is why when I counsel clients who may feel stuck I always encourage them to follow the energy, this means look for the coincidences in your life. The meaningful but obscure patterns that repeat themselves, the familiar stranger or place. This is a key to a path or a way to the self, and the needs of the soul or heart. To get clear about what your values are at a deep level, to get in touch with our unconscious patterns.

I have seen this manifest in a number of circumstances in my own life, it took me a while to learn to trust divine intervention to come up with solutions the way I do now.

I remember an occurrence that happened on a trip to the southwest recently.  Last year my boyfriend were traveling in Arizona. He had this dream and I like a "good" girlfriend supported his dream.  To rent a Harley Davidson motorcycle and drive across the desert.  Guess who rode on the back digging her nails into his leather jacket as we roared down the interstate.  Being strangers to Tuscon we followed the bike shop owners instructions to get to Tombstone which included a hair-raising 20 minute ride on the I-19.  When we finally got to our destination I was cursing the American bikers!  Even our friends we had dinner with the next evening (who both own Harleys) were amazed we survived the interstate.

On the way back we were riding down the smaller highways and I began praying passionately asking god to help us find an alternative to Tuscon which bypassed the interstate.  I prayed so hard I was crying, or was it the desert wind blowing sand in my eyes.  We stopped for water at a crossroads, just before the perilous interstate.  I think I heard the music for the movie "The Good the Bad and the Ugly", or was it the cry of a hawk piercing the noon heat.  Out of nowhere, a young man pulls up in a car starts talking about the bike.  It turns out he is a "biker" and he knows the people who own the bike shop.  He gives us an alternate route to Tuscon that does not involve the I-19.

I think that guy was an angel, which goes to show you that "help" comes in many guises.

Our Animal Co-habitants

In the invisible undercurrents of the planet, there are many mysterious happenings. It is humbling sometimes as a psychic, to receive messages from some of these unexpected but compelling sources. Before I became a psychic I had vague notions about an intelligence which included beings different than ourselves but this was mostly intellectual and based on assumptions I had from my catholic upbringing.

Once I began reading people professionally it was if the entire planet noticed I was there and began speaking to me. There are many stories, but I will cite a few just to give you some insight into what surrounds us everyday that we may over look.
I was giving a reading to a woman at a café where I do readings on occasion. She told me that psychics had difficulty reading her and I suggested that perhaps I shouldn't read her if she felt that way. I feel that clients should have positive feelings regarding readers otherwise it can make the reading difficult. She said no she liked the looks of me and so we began. It was going well and near the end of the reading, I noticed a dog outside tied up who was waging his tail and staring at me through the window. I felt love emanating from the animal. I asked the woman if the dog was hers' she beamed at me and said oh yes and I love my dog. I felt strangely drawn to this animal and at that point heard from the dog very loudly, Paris France someone is coming from Paris. I blurted this information out and the woman's jaw dropped, it turns out her best friend was arriving from Paris France the next day. She and myself were flabbergasted at the information. I didn't tell her it was her dog (who was smiling and wagging his tail the entire time) who told me this through telepathy

Our animals love us so much and know what we do and how we are feeling. I have read many stories where a beloved pet rescues his/her human friend. Notice how often our pets stay close to us when we are ill or depressed, they know and want us to feel better. The more we love and treat our animal friends with the respect they deserve and not as a subordinate to be enslaved and mistreated, just watch how they glow with infinite intelligence

Animals are very sensitive, this includes animals in the wild. Everything has a purpose here on planet earth and we need animals and the natural world in its wild state if we are to survive into the next millennium. During meditation I have received telepathic information that the song of whales helps to keep the planet in orbit around the sun. Recently I was lying in bed early in the morning one spring and my helpers showed me the colors emanating from a robin when she sings in the spring time and how important this sound is to help the plants start growing.
In my own human smallness I could only contemplate the complex intricacies that must occur every moment in nature where this mysterious system is completely dependant on each and every living member possibly right down to the throbbing dance of subatomic particles. It seems there is a flowing, pulsing symphony going on which we humans are barely aware of.

The Power of Love

What a powerful place is this planet we call Earth. As a seer I am still amazed of the power of love. Not the love that is saccharine or dominates aisles of greeting cards in the pharmacy. It is love as a energy that moves, inspires and shakes us to our core. Love is the sword of truth that heals and cuts through the illusion of separation. It is this energy I see around each and every person whenever I tune in or begin a reading. As a seer I am but a vessel or channel for this energy to flow through.

Love is not only an energy but is an intelligence. It is a directive from god about how we should be not only living our lives but conducting ourselves here upon the planet. One of the most powerful laws governing our existence is whatever we send out (thought, word and deed) comes back to us tenfold. Since we are connected to this energy field just by being alive, we are then connected to each and every single other living being out there. Whatever we do that is harmful we are actually harming ourselves.

But when we really connect and try to live with a consciousness about harming none we align ourselves with the kind of power that keeps the earth in orbit around the sun, makes gravity happen and governs the moon's pull on the waters of the earth.

That is why it is so important to live by the golden rule "Do unto others as you would have done to yourself". If you live your life by this simple rule, putting out love into the universe, especially where there is darkness, you will never be alone. It is through love that we have the strength to overcome our fears and the illusion of separation that fear creates.

It is equally important to love our enemies, for those are our greatest teachers. They can mirror to us our shadow, or unconscious parts of ourselves which still need to be integrated. I am not stating that we remain intimate with people who hurt us and that we allow ourselves to be abused, but we can move through these painful experiences more gracefully thanking creator for the lesson. "The sword of truth is forged in the fires of suffering." Love has the power to heal and bring clarity to even most obscure of situations.

My sister died of cancer one year ago. My understanding of the laws of the spirit world is that it is very difficult for spirits to show themselves here in this dimension after they have departed. It is through this universal love energy (that all of us have access to), that our loved ones make it known to us that they are all right after they have passed to the other side. My sister has shown herself to my sisters and myself so powerfully since she passed that my sisters who are still here with me have been changed profoundly from these experiences. Even myself with all that I know, I have been humbled by the displays of my sister Sherry's love for me. She teaches me, sits by my side and makes me wonder at what a wonderful and mysterious place is this planet we call Earth.

Further musings along the path

This blogg was started so I would have a space to write longer, more in depth articles about ideas I am passionate about.  Mostly spirituality, creativity and my life path in general.  I hope you will go to my website: www.lorraineannehughes.com to find out more about what I do as a clairvoyant and energy healer.

What I write here is longer articles that I don't necessarily have time for on my website blog.

I hope you enjoy, because this writing is just for you.  Because I feel what I receive and think about is for everyone, not just the clients I work with.

Thank you, all my relations.
